6/17/21 Beyond the second No-Go log (but passable to the stream side, although one should use care). The trail is now clear for 0.7 miles past Lillian Falls. The remainder of the trail has 3 small logs near Waldo Lake and could use some brushing.
6/10/21    Middle Fork Ranger District     Reported by: CV (GT)
There were two NO-GO logs that we left. One is about 36" and suspended off the ground about 4 feet. This makes it about a 4 foot duck under, so it isn't hard to get past, just a bit awkward. Because it is suspended (and due to it's size) it would be extremely difficult to reach to saw safely. The other NO-GO is close to 48" in diameter, broken at both ends (ie, not anchored at either end) and lying across the trail on the slope. I'm concerned that it could slide down after it is cut (and given its size and the slope, it would be difficult to reach and saw safely). There is a rough walk around that has formed as hikers go around it, so it can be bypassed with some awkwardness.

Frissel Trail #35127/23/20  McKenzie River Ranger District  Reported by:  Scorpions (SJ).On Thursday July 23rd Tom B., Larry D., Lou S. and Sig started logging and brushing the Frissell trail #3512. Sig scouted the trail the previous Sunday so we had a good idea of what lay ahead. We started from the south TH which you get to by taking 126 to Rainbow. The TH is off of FR 704. It is a little less than 4 miles to the crest of the trail, all up. We made 20 downed trees across this section of trail disappear. Most were higher up on the 10 switchbacks where we gained 2400ft of elevation in about 3 miles. The majority of the trees were pretty straight forward, 2 were reasonably complex and required careful planning which paid off with very successful cuts. We also did some corridor widening concentrating on the brush above chest height. It was a long day, over 8 hours on the trail but very successful.

8/11/20 Lookout trail needs some serious brushing. There are a few logs left in the last quarter mile to the summit. All easy to get around. (SJ)

Irish Mt. Trail#358810/30/2021. Reported by hiker (KM). I wanted to let you know about some trails that are in pretty bad shape. The Irish Mountain trail that takes off from Scookum Creek Campground and the trails around it near the summit. A friend and I went up to Irish Mountain two years ago and it needed attention but she went up recently and said it was much worse — a lot of downed trees and trail was really covered over (not a lot of people going up there). On my old Waldo map you come down the Erma Bell Trail and then take a left toward Otter Lake and you get on the Irish Mountain Trail (3588). She said there was also another trail in bad shape. I think it would be Crossing Way trail (3307) up high in the basin with lakes that is just under the Irish Mountain summit. It’s lovely up there and wild.

Middle Fork Willamette Trail Survey for Equestrians (BH):

TRAIL SURVEY SECTION ONE (CONTINUED)

Item #1: For approximately 400 yards before meeting Rd. 21, the MFW Trail turns up onto the road and continues along the shoulder. Road 21 is straight here and vehicles can drive fast. Sight lines are good, but this section of trail is potentially dangerous for horses. We request horse caution signage above and below this road section. Widening the shoulder where possible would be best.
6/1/21 Kevin: This should conclude our equestrian Trail survey of 3609 from Sand Prairie To where 253 crosses 3609 one mile short of Timonogas.
Please find attached a series of pictures listing GPS coordinates and mentions as to problems or needed Fix. This is the GPS coordinates of an area that needs to have the trail re excavated/resloped but it was so steep and narrow I didn't have the ability of getting a picture of it. It was about 30ft in Distance. N43° 27.130' W122° 12.727'. Other than these few issues the trail was lovingly all logged out. Want to give you or somebody a big huge thank you. What a spectacular section of this trail, very dramatic scenery. We did ride from Sacadanga to Indigo Springs and found it all logged out except for that Big Tree(maybe we should dig out from under it) The boggy area at the edge of the River that needs the re-route still very bad and getting more dangerous. Where are you at with getting an update with Bridge surveys that was done last year?

SURVEY SECTION TWO: FS Rd. 2127 to FS Rd. 2134.

With construction of the Indian Creek Bridge and the Side Channel Bridge, this section of the MFW Trail can be considered safe for equestrian use. The new reroute from the old Coal Creek Bridge to Rd. 2134 is a huge improvement. Thanks!

SURVEY SECTION THREE: FS Rd. 2134 to Sacandaga Campground
Figure #3. This large log protrudes out onto the trail forcing horses to tread
extremely close to the bank and drop-off into the river. 20” (approx) log needs to be cut back away from the trail for wider passage. No gps coordinates available with this photo, but it is a short distance upstream from Maple Creek intersection with Willamette River.

3/10/2021 DOD (BP),Unable to get above 3423/3424 junction due to snow. Road 2234 is blocked by concrete barricades 1/4 mile from Brno TH and so conditions there are unknown.
3/30/21 Reported by BCH Emerald Empire (JC). We will report to Kevin details of our survey. This section needs rebuild of one puncheon and
one large log (20") cut out which forces users off the trail at a precarious drop off.
3/2/2021 (BH). I want to report three logs down on the new reroute section of the Middle Fork trail between FS Roads #2133 and #2134. The trail here is on a slope, steep in some places, so log-outs will requite skill. Sorry we didn’t get gps locations for the logs. Starting from the new trailhead off Rd. #2134, the first down log is about 12” at an estimated 1/2 mile up the trail. The second is larger, 18” approx., also lying across the trail on a slope. Rotted and broken. It lies another half mile beyond the first. The third is close to the opposite end of the segment where the trail comes out on Rd.#2133. It is smaller and can be gone around.

I have cleared a route around/ through it but it needs more. I put in some water diversions on that last leg but haven't been up yet this Spring to see how they worked out. This is a heavily used trail though it appears about 1/2 the traffic comes from the Eagles Rest access.
